More about Allandale
Allandale is unique as an older, central neighborhood in that it has not seen many houses rebuilt (though many interiors are remodeled), and (per neighborhood-wide deed restrictions) also does not allow garage apartments on properties as many bordering neighborhoods do. This provides it with a charm unique to the area.
The neighborhood is popular with cyclists and pedestrians of all ages for its wide and shaded bike lanes along Shoal Creek. It has a vibrant and active neighborhood association with its own community website, the Allandale Reporter. The neighborhood is on a bus route that connects it directly with downtown Austin and the Northwest Austin business corridor. Allandale collectively contains many smaller subdivisions; in searching the area you might see names like Allandale Terrace, Green Acres, Shoalmont and more.
