Clarksville and its nearby neighborhoods are commonly referred to as "Old West Austin" as the neighborhood is immedately adjacent, and west of, downtown Austin. There are also many newer and older prestigous condo developments in the neighborhood. 

Clarksville contains some of the oldest houses in Austin, with properties dating back to the early 1900's. As such, the neighborhood earns a highly unique designation in Austin as one of the few neighborhoods on the National Register Historic District.

Clarksville is a very popular neighborhood in Austin, within easy walking distance of many boutique and major attractions at West Lynn and 12th, as well as retail on West Sixth Street and the flagship Whole Foods on sixth street. It has a very active neighborhood association that is involved in the historic preservation of the community. The neighborhood is bound by Mopac to the West, Town Lake to the South, Lamar to the East, and Enfield to the north. It consists of many, many small neighborhoods, of the more common you may see Enfield E, Silliman, Enfield C, and Division Z.
