More about the neighborhood

Tarrytown has seen major renovations and was the springboard for Austin's famed "McMansion" ordinance. This ordinance limited the height  of the structure as well as the impervious cover on a single lot, and was an attempt to preserve small homes from being "scraped".  It is very popular with families and singles, and due to its high cost of living, is  largely limited to more affluent populations. Certain portions of the area close to the lake are known for the fact that their ground shifts regularly as the ground shrinks and swells with droughts and rain, which affects the foundation of these properties.
