West Central Austin
The areas west of downtown Austin are largely considered the most prestigous real estate in Austin. Neighborhoods include Clarksville, Tarrytown, Westlake and Bee Cave even further.
Development closer into town in the Clarksville neighborhood began around the turn of the last century. Just west of Clarksvlle, the prestigous community of Tarrytown saw development between 1920 and present day. West of Tarrytown sits the large municipality of Westlake, home to the sought-after Eanes ISD, and beyond that the newer homes of Barton Creek and Lost Creek with large lots and impressive views, developed between the 1970's and present day.
Retail west of Austin is limited to the main thoroughfares of 2244 and 360. The neighborhoods themselves, particularly in the areas of Westlake, are dramatically hilly.
